FAQs

What is agarwood?

Agarwood is a rare, aromatic wood formed when certain trees produce resin in response to natural conditions over time. In the Gulf, agarwood is commonly known as oud and is traditionally burned to scent homes, welcome guests, and mark meaningful moments.

What is the difference between agarwood and bakhoor?

Agarwood is natural oud wood burned on charcoal in its original form.
Bakhoor usually refers to wood chips or materials mixed with oils, perfumes, or resins.

At Lutf Al Oud, we specialize in natural agarwood, not perfumed bakhoor.

How do you burn agarwood?

Agarwood is burned by placing a small piece of wood on heated charcoal. As it warms, the scent releases gradually and fills the space. A small amount is enough, as agarwood responds best to gentle heat rather than flame.

Is agarwood the same as oud oil?

No. Agarwood is the wood itself, burned traditionally.
Oud oil is distilled from agarwood resin and used as perfume. They are different forms of the same origin but used in different ways.

Is your agarwood natural or treated?

Our agarwood is natural, unsoaked, and unenhanced. We do not add oils, fragrance, or chemical treatments. Variations in scent, color, and shape are part of authentic agarwood.

Why does agarwood vary in size, color, and scent?

Natural agarwood forms differently in every tree. Resin concentration, age, and environment all affect how each piece looks and smells. This variation is expected and valued.

Is agarwood suitable for daily use?

Yes. We offer agarwood selected specifically for daily burning, as well as higher-grade pieces intended for special occasions, celebrations, and gifting.

How long does one piece of agarwood last?

Burn time depends on the size of the piece, resin density, and heat level. Some pieces release scent quickly, while denser pieces unfold more slowly. A small chip can scent a room for several minutes.

How should agarwood be stored?

Agarwood should be stored in a dry wooden box or wrapped in paper or cloth, away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. Avoid plastic, as it can affect the natural aroma over time.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Lutf Al Oud is based in the UAE and ships worldwide. Shipping options and delivery times are shown at checkout.

Is agarwood a good gift?

Yes. Agarwood has long been offered as a meaningful and respected gift in the Gulf, especially for celebrations, gatherings, and important occasions. Our Celebratory Selection is curated with gifting in mind.

How do I choose the right agarwood?

If you are new to agarwood, we recommend starting with our Saff (صفّ). For experienced users or special occasions, our Wasat (وسط) and Khususi (خصوصي) offers deeper and more distinctive pieces.
